00-03 [Life Story 03]

by Tan-san

“Nice to meet you as well, I’m Gendou Setsuna, Setsuna is fine.” [Setsuna]

After introductions were made, Asuka explained who he was and what he needed.

Basically, he was also a childhood friend of Asuka and Yuki. The only difference is that he became somewhat distant in the middle of it. Being a boy in his childhood, of course he would be more interested in things like sports and what not.

What he wanted at that time wasn’t related to football though, Asuka introduced him to me in order to invite him as well to be a party member in **********.

It’s not like I’m totally against it, but still with him being a part of the school football team, one would be suspicious. But as it turned out, he was a better of a person that I thought he would be. I guess, I wan't immune to prejudice as well.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

“Um, Masato-san…” [Setsuna]

“Masato is fine.” [Masato]

“M-masato…” [Setsuna]

“Ou?” [Masato]

“Since when have you started playing **********?” [Setsuna]

“Ever since its release! The trailer really gave me shivers, you know. You’d expect me to miss out on something like this?” [Masato]

His reaction was really surprising, I wasn't really expecting that.

“N-no, not really. It’s just that, I didn’t know you were into this stuff…” [Setsuna]

“Well, I have to thank Asuka for showing the beauty of RPGs. No wonder people become addicted to these things, they're just so enthralling!” [Masato]

“That’s why you need to keep your shit straight Ma-kun, one small misstep and you might find yourself lost in addiction.” [Asuka]

“You know, Asuka, haven’t I always told you not to call me “Ma-kun”? We’re not kids anymore…” *sigh* [Masato]

“Oh, really…” *faces Setsuna* “Anyways, let’s get back to class. We’ll talk about the details after school!” [Asuka]

“Oi!” [Masato]

“Pfft.” [Setsuna]

“You, don’t laugh.” [Masato]

"Yes, sir. Pfft." [Setsuna]

Who wouldn't laugh, I know that what she did was an old joke, but as Asuka sprinted towards the school building, she left behind an obnoxious laugh, ignoring the school star athlete.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

As the bell rung, signifying the end of classes, not only Asuka and Yuki, but Masato as well, came to pick me up.

I mean, Asuka and Yuki was almost a regular thing, that’s why some of the glares started to die already, but with the sudden appearance of Masato in front of the class's door… Let’s just say that things went a little bit out of hand.

(GAH! Stop with the stares! It hurts…)

“What’s the matter?” [Asuka]

“You’re looking quite pale right now, you know?” [Yuki]

“Huh, oh… It’s nothing really!” [Setsuna]

“A~huh… Okay, if you say so.” [Asuka]

We went to our usual spot, at a cafe near the train station. The cafĂ© itself wasn’t shabby, but it’s not that famous as well. In other words, perfect for us to hold meetings like this.

Whilst walking, Masato explained what his character was in **********.

In summary, his class was a Paladin.

To put it in comparison with other Vanguard Types, similar to mine and Asuka’s, if the Samurai focuses on dexterity and vitality, the Dragoon on strength and agility, the Paladin would be of vitality and strength. But even if that were to be, everything boils down to what the player desires.

(I guess having another vanguard might make our party quite unbalance. But, his level would be too far if he were to make another character. Well, it’s not like it’s too much of a bad idea.)

“So? What now? [Masato]

“Just wait for a sec will you? We’re waiting for our cake! Right, Yu-chan?” *snuggle* [Asuka]

“Asuka-chan, it tickles! Hehehe~” [Yuki]

Upon settling down, Masato immediately asked on what he would do, but was stopped by Asuka, who's tired from school. He must have been really excited.

“Well, for one your character level won’t really slow us down, but it restricts the party’s movement quite drastically and the mere fact that he’s also a vanguard tips our party-comp to one side.” [Asuka]

“Gueh…” [Masato]

“Asuka-chan is really strict, huh?” [Yuki]

“Let’s just let him in as it is, the level gap isn’t really that far behind, and besides, having him use another class he’s not used to could become a minus for us.” [Setsuna]

“If you say so… Yu-chan, you also agree with Setsuna?” [Asuka]

"Un~" [Yuki]

“Well, with that… Welcome to the team, Ma-kun!” [Asuka]

“Thanks! Please take care of me from now on!” [Masato]

We gained a new party member! Of course, it didn’t go smoothly at first.

I’ll be blunt; he was all over the place, that’s the problem when you go solo for so long. He still needed to get used to coordination, especially with something as control-specific as our party.

But, all’s well that ends well, as the saying goes. It’s not like he was bad, the fact that he knew what he was doing was a real help, sometimes even, he would bring up hidden quests that even our veteran group wouldn’t know about.

So yeah, it’s a win-lose situation.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

Our high school life ended without any hitch, it wasn’t that grand, but it wasn’t that stale as well. But the truth is, I had a better experience with high school than college.

In the end, all four of us went our separate way, attending different collages, one of which didn’t have to.

Yuki ended up working in her family’s resort inn, and let me tell you this, that place is exquisite as hell.

Us three went with the boring route, attending college. I haven’t heard from them after my first year of college, it was that hard. But, a week from now, that record will be erased.

“Set-chan, Kazu-chan*, Otou-san!*, Ojii-chan! Dinner’s ready!” [Okaa-san*]

“We’ll be right! We’re just finishing the last one!” [Setsuna]

As we finished our work, we changed clothes, washed our faces and hands, and proceeded to the dining table.

Dinner wasn’t that extravagant, but you can’t help but feel overwhelmed. I guess, living in the city really takes a toll on you, huh.

At the dinner table there was your typical rice, Saba Shioyaki*, Nikujaga*, and a bowl of Miso Soup. An ordinary dinner for your ordinary family, I guess, but delicious nonetheless.

“Okaa-san, your cooking is still the best!” [Setsuna]

“You’re just missing it, from just eating city-food or Cup Ramen*” [Okaa-san]

“Yeah, if you miss it so much, then just come home! It has been nearly a year from the last time you’ve been here!” [Mari-chan]

“Mari, city life is not that easy, you know? If he could, he would have came home regularly by now.” [Kazu-aniki*]

“Mmmm…” [Mari-chan]

Ahh, nothing really beats the sight of family. Maybe I’m really just missing them too much.

Otou-san and Okaa-san seems to be still energetic, nothing to worry about them. Kazu-aniki has already started to get the feel around working the family smithy. And Mari-chan is already in her last year of high school.

I guess, everything just going smoothly.

(A week from now, I’ll finally get to meet them again after so long. Next week’s going to be exciting!)
